Searching Skills
Ms Janice showed us to how to use Destiny Quest at the library. The library is a rich resource of information so learning how to find that is important! One of the non-generative questions that we cared to find out was, "What does physical wellbeing mean?". Armed with our session on Destiny Quest, students worked in small groups and wrote the results of their search. Later in the week, the class analyzed the definitions we gathered and agreed on one as our focus.
Reflecting about Experiences
We've just concluded our unit on Physical Wellbeing and today we thought back over our learning by writing down the activities during the unit. We created a code for analyzing the activities based on their usefulness in helping us think about the choices we make that affect our wellbeing. A few of the points were: our fitness test was very useful because it made us think about our choices for exercise, interviewing IASAS athletes was amazingly useful, and dressing up in our exercise attire was completely useless because we already know what our friends do to keep fit. This reflection has prepared us to think about our individual learning. Our next step is to reflect on that using a rubric.
Cuisines of the World
Today was the grand one-day opening of our restaurant called, "Cuisines of the World". As a class passion project, we transformed our classroom into a restaurant. This meant using the skills and knowledge that we developed for our unit on Physical Wellbeing, focusing on nutrition. It also coincided with the ISM tradition of celebrating cultures on International Day. We served food that is meaningful to us, researched about the nutrients that it contains, and asked our parent community to join us in making our restaurant come to life. We are grateful for all your help and hope that you enjoyed your time at our restaurant!
Our Restaurant, Our Passion
BOPDs are excited to open their restaurant tomorrow during International Day. It has been our class passion project to transform our classroom into a restaurant serving food from different cultures. It was a chance for us to research about the nutrients contained in foods that we usually eat, and an opportunity to collaborate on a project that celebrates culture. Today was our final day of setting up. Students set up tables and added the centerpieces. We learned a napkin fold from classmates and wrote "Thank You" notes to the parents who have volunteered to be the staff at our restaurant.
Nutrient Research
BOPDs built a menu for our restaurant featuring food items that give others a taste of our culture or what food is important to our family. Once chosen they researched about one ingredient so that we could include this on our menu. We encourage our customers to make informed choices when they order at our restaurant.
Creating a Restaurant
BOPDs split into committees for our class passion project of creating a restaurant. The committee on plates, glasses and cutlery brought some material from home. The committee on napkins and placemats, chose a napkin fold that they will teach to the class on Tuesday and made a video for demonstration. They also cleaned the placemats. The decorations and menu committee created posters for outside our class while others created paper flowers for our table centerpiece. The same committee created a playlist on Spotify for that day. The committee on menu designed a cover page that reflected what our restaurant is about and another couple composed the feedback page and edited the menu entries. We are excited to open our restaurant on International Day!

Puzzle Pieces
BOPDs used puzzle pieces to think about their points of learning about physical wellbeing. Once they felt ready, they paired up to share their puzzle pieces. A classmate choose a puzzle piece and asks the partner to cite the learning experience that aided the learning. This reflection will help us to get to our next step and launch personal inquiries about physical wellbeing.
Reflecting about our Choices
BOPDs reviewed the choices that they committed to in preparation for Sports Day. Using targets for assessment and goal-setting, they thought about how their day went and what their next steps could be for physical wellbeing.
Preparing for Sports Day
BOPDs welcomed ISM athletes as resource speakers. They wanted to find out how to prepare for Sports Day by inquiring about the choices the athletes made. Students formulated questions and used the application "Kahoot" that utilized their questions into a quiz. The replied became starting points of conversations. We noticed many things about their choices and we used this information to make our own in preparation for Sports Day.
Questions for a Triathlete
BOPDs shared the chance to ask questions from a ten-year-old triathlete. They listened intently as their special guest spoke about his routine. They asked questions ranging from his choices to his victories.
The Interview
BOPDs trekked to the canteen to find out the state of canteen food at ISM. Along the way they were able to take photos and videos. The most important method was interviewing the people who were eating, buying or selling the food. We understand the value of good questions and we applied this skill when we approached people.
Sharing Expectations
The final step for our newly-launched passion projects is sharing your results. For this maiden try, we used Google Slides to record and present in an efficient and effective way. Preparing the slides also entailed following the writing process to guide our learning. The class viewed some presentations and asked, 'Is this presentation ready to be shared? Why or why not?"
Analyzing Information
After successfully gathering information about canteen food at ISM, BOPDs were tasked to analyze what they gathered. They shared their thinking and tweeted it so we can go back to it and discuss it as a class.
Choices about Nutrition
BOPDs prepared snacks for their first grade buddies by choosing food that they think their friends would enjoy. There were so many choices made- from whether they are healthy or not, were they bought or made at home, how much sugar it contained. All these came to mind when choosing a snack for our buddies.
Getting the Pulse

Aside from the measurement that they indicated on their fitness test plans, we also spoke about our heart rate and measuring our pulse. This served as the baseline measurement for our fitness test and allows us to dig deeper into how exercise affects our bodies. Next, we will analyze how our pulse changes after exercise.
Sharing our Routine

We visited the Rockstars in Kindergarten to share our routine on minding our bodies. After explaining what they need to do and why we do it, our friends joined us in the routine. BOPDs helped their Kindergarten buddies think about what body part was sending a clear message to them. It was a chance for us to teach and explain our thinking.
My Choices
Our choices affect our wellbeing. Our class asked, "What choices do I make?". After writing down all the choices they make, students swapped posters to analyze the choices based on the three aspects of physical wellbeing that we discussed: nutrition, exercise and sleep. Next we will talk about how many of our choices have to do with our physical wellbeing and why this is so.
