Classroom Collaboration

Part of what we did on our first day is to build our classroom together. We worked in small groups and were assigned different tasks. In the process, we learned each other's names and the way we collaborate.

Questions Galore

On our first day of school, we focused on questions and how they help us learn. Ms Montilla read the story of Owly who started asking questions when he was two years old! His mother lovingly supported his inquisitiveness by letting him search for the meaning on his own. What results is a disposition for learning. At the end of the day, we asked our own questions about Third Grade.

Just Like Me

We started our day by finding connections among us during community circle. Each person had to mention a fact about himself/herself and then every other person for which this is true, placed their hands in front and said, 'just like me'. It was a wonderful way to get to know each and laugh about our discoveries! To document our experience we traced our hands on craft paper to serve as a memory of our first day and how came together for community building.

Dispositions

Working in pairs, we thought and agreed on a disposition that described us on our first day of school. We connected these dispositions to the ones that we have learned at ISM and found that they are all connected. Dispositions guide our readiness for learning.
