Dispositions

We played a game today. We were given a disposition and we needed to act it to let another person guess. At first we sat as a whole group and spoke about the dispositions, talking about what it looks like, feels like and sounds like. We found partners and played the guessing game. We also had a chance to share it with the entire class.

Math Routines

Learning routines is important. On our second day of school we learned to share our thinking on Mathematics. We learned the norms for Number Talks, a mental math learning experience that highlights explaining solutions. We also thought about mathematical practices when we tried to find ways to make 12 by multiplying numbers. We learned to listen our friends' solutions and use math tools to solve problems.

Classroom Collaboration

Part of what we did on our first day is to build our classroom together. We worked in small groups and were assigned different tasks. In the process, we learned each other's names and the way we collaborate.

Questions Galore

On our first day of school, we focused on questions and how they help us learn. Ms Montilla read the story of Owly who started asking questions when he was two years old! His mother lovingly supported his inquisitiveness by letting him search for the meaning on his own. What results is a disposition for learning. At the end of the day, we asked our own questions about Third Grade.

Just Like Me

We started our day by finding connections among us during community circle. Each person had to mention a fact about himself/herself and then every other person for which this is true, placed their hands in front and said, 'just like me'. It was a wonderful way to get to know each and laugh about our discoveries! To document our experience we traced our hands on craft paper to serve as a memory of our first day and how came together for community building.

Here we go!

The books are out, the pillows are piled, math games abound, and there's paper everywhere. Here we go Third Graders! See you all tomorrow.
