Organizing our thinking
Ms Montilla shared a new book that she was extremely excited to read. It's entitled, "The Road to Character" by David Brooks. She told the story about how important it was for to have the book when she saw it at the Chiang Mai airport. She shared the notes that she wrote on the last page. She organized her thoughts into a routine called, "Connect Extend Challenge". She scribbles notes about how what she read connected to her thinking. She also wrote about how it extended and challenged what she believed. Students tried using the same routine to organize their thinking in relation to text. Instead of writing on their books, they used stickies to show their thinking.
Conversations
Using a thinking routine called Chalk Talk, we wrote our ideas about the three primary agreements we have about school - being safe, responsible and respectful. In this thinking routine, we practiced the back and forth nature of conversations and emphasized how our ideas are connected.
