Hear us speak

Throughout this week we listened to speeches from classmates who are vying for the role of student council representative. It was a meaningful learning experience. Our speakers were generous with their ideas and our audience was respectful.  We will decide next week!

Math Connections

This week we had a real math problem in our hands. There were ten 10 who wanted to give speeches and 3 days left in school. We thought about the different ways we could divide the speakers.

Rubrics

BOPD's came up with a simple rubric of qualities that they will use when they listen to the speeches for the student representative. They agreed that the person needs to safe, responsible and respectful, has focus, is happy, listens and has a reason for wanting to join.

What makes a good speech?

Ms C asked our class to think about joining the student council. Quirijn and Jonas had been student reps the year before so they helped explain the job and the responsibilities. Those who were interested to join showed their intent, and we came up with half the class wanting to serve! Today we asked, "What makes a good speech?" because to vie for the position you would need to say a speech to the class who will then play a role in choosing the student rep from our class. We paired up today and wrote the first draft of our speeches. We will refine it over the weekend with our families and begin delivering them next week.

It's wonderful to see students willing to serve and help out.
