Growing our brain
BOPDs watched a movie about how to learn math and used it to reflect about themselves as mathematicians. We learned that our brains have neuroplasticity and that every time try something new we create a pathway. Math is not just about calculations and computations. It's about visualization, ideas and creativity. We drew an image to show our reflection together with a short write up to explain how we learn math.
Brain Power
On our return to school, we are revisiting how we learn through our mindset and to begin doing this, we inquired about our brain and how it functions. We watched a short movie about the brain, and when it finished, we were asked to show through our fingers how many ideas popped in our mind while watching. Then we made an experiment and ventured to watch it a second time to see if the numbers would change. What we noticed was that on the second viewing, we were more aware and conscious of note-taking. We also agreed that we needed time to pause and process the movie before sharing our take-aways. One student shared that, "our brains make new roads when we learn" so we drew what our brain looks like when it is learning.
