Our Learning

These scenes depict our mornings. This is how we start our day in school based on a routine that is driven by our interests. We have a shared purpose of learning and in everything that we do, there's a chance for reflect and connect.

Splitscreen Reflection

BOPDs learned a new routine that enabled them to think about how they are learning while they are learning! In this example, a team of four analyzed the learning experience of generating questions for athletes.

Preparing for the conference

BOPDs have had experience attending student-parent-teacher conferences so it was with excitement that they started planning for this special event. It is a wonderful opportunity to share our learning together. Using Google Slides that Ms Montilla shared with the class as a template, students prepared materials and practiced explanations. The technical side meant preparing slides and exchanging comments with Ms Montilla in ensuring that the slides are ready for presentation. The reflective side meant choosing evidence that shows our learning in third grade. We aim to end our conference by setting a goal with our parents based on an assessment that we will do about our learning.

Assessment

We played a short word game to get us thinking about assessment. We spoke about what it looks like in our classroom and the different ways that we have experienced it. We also pointed out how it is much like our 'good fit' books. Assessment allows us to show our thinking to find a challenge that aids our learning.

Superhero Strength

Ms Kim joined our class and read a story about a superhero.  We thought about our own superpowers of learning and created posters to showcase our strength.

Learning

Mrs Phillips red a story to the class about a boy who loved helping his uncle at work. We focused on our purpose in school and discovered that we all share 'learning' as our reason for coming to school every day. We used a thinking routine called See, Think, Wonder to share our ideas about learning. We all wrote learning statements, and shared what learning means to each one of us.

Learning is focusing. Learning is getting smarter. Teamwork is part of learning. Learning means getting knowledge from technology or a teacher. Our statements show how different we all are.
