Playful Pets looked at common acronyms and initials. There is, "ISM" which stands for our school name. Another is "AFAC" which a combination of the first two letters of 'After school Activities". These help us understand and communicate. Ms Montilla then asked her students to think of 'RESPECT' as an acronym, this means that every letter stands for something to allow us to understand what the word means : recognising everyone's space, property, culture, experience and time.
To make sense of this we played, 'Respect Theater' where small groups had to plan a skit to show examples and non-examples of what it means. Students collaborated and presented scenarios. We finished with a community circle that asked the question, 'What do you do when someone is not respectful to you?"
