At writers' workshop, we started with a lesson on non-fiction features. Using the thinking routine, THINK PUZZLE EXPLORE, we paired up and shared our ideas. Each pair had a page from a non-fiction book and using stickies, they labeled features. We walked around and looked at what other people think. Next, we went back to our poster and wrote down something that puzzled us about non-fiction text. We agreed to explore this kind of text and use it as a format to share information about our contraptions.
