Wonder

Last week we wrote fables that held a value at the end of the story. More than one student illustrated the moral stating, "Don't judge a book by its cover" so Ms Montilla started reading this story to the class. We read and spoke about the first page and what our expectations are from the story. We also shared other values like, "Be happy with what you have" that connects to the story. BOPDs have been enjoying listening to Ms Montilla read the story chapter by chapter. A few students even noted that their siblings also like the story.

Our Class Library

BOPDs categorized the books in our class library in the genres that we have at the CMC.  All of us took a pile of our own books and assigned them to the right pile. 

Interesting titles

Students can choose from an array of leveled books that will help them become better readers. They choose the books based on interesting titles and inspect a few pages before taking it as their own. Good fit books also mean interesting books!

Evidence cards

 

Students used evidence cards to help pinpoint what part of the text proves their idea about the story. Students are learning to interact with the text and refer to its content for connections.

Readers' Choices

BOPDs reflected on a learning map for reading that focused on the areas of comprehension, accuracy, vocabulary and fluency. With these in mind, they designed choices that would help them become better readers. The choices entail reading, writing, listening and speaking. We launched our Readers' Choices this week and it was successful!

Good Fit Books

This week we started reading our good fit books. These are the kind of books that will help us become better at reading. They're not too easy that it's boring, and they're not too hard that it's frustrating. They're just right and we get challenged to use and improve our skills. Our teachers sit with us to talk about our books and to share what we think about them.

Partner Share

The thrill of sharing a book is lived out at partner share. We have time to read on our own and then we pair up and share everything that the book means to us. 

How do books come alive for you?

 Ms Montilla brought an object related to a popular story in our class. It got us thinking about how books come alive. We searched for parts in stories that come alive for us and shared it with friends. One said it only comes alive after a few pages, and another said books create an immediate picture in their heads.
