Redesigning our Classroom

Ms Montilla's class created a floor plan of their classroom. Ms Montilla suggested moving the big table near the door to showcase their work. BOPDs needed to figure out a couple of things to do this, including computing for the area and perimeter of shapes. One group was also assigned to analyze the space and how the furniture has to be transported from one space to another.

Perimeter Talk

BOPDs worked together to formulate rules for solving the perimeter of an irregular shape based on their experience last week. After formulating the rules, they practiced it again and collaborated to compute for the perimeter. They turned to a partner to compute for the final answer.

Problem Solving on Perimeter

BOPDs tried solving for the perimeter of an irregular shape. After twenty minutes, we came back together as a class and shard what was easy and what was hard about doing that. We tried to come up with guidelines that everyone could use and then had another try at it. Some of our important points were that finding the perimeter means figuring out ALL the side lengths, and that one way to do it is to break the irregular shape into rectangles.
